The plum variety 'Edda' is an early-season, high-quality purple plum developed in Norway, making it particularly suitable for northern climates.
Its fruit is typically dark blue to blue-brown with a deep waxy bloom, and the pale yellow flesh is fine in texture, sweet, and aromatic. The stones are easily removed, making it a good choice for both eating fresh and cooking.
Edda is not self-fertile, so it requires a compatible pollinator (such as Opal or Victoria) planted nearby to produce fruit reliably. It's often considered an improved form of the Czar plum due to its enhanced flavor. In the UK, it typically ripens in late July.
