The Franquette walnut tree stands as a time-tested favorite, renowned for its exceptional reliability, consistent production, and delicious, easy-to-crack nuts. Originating from France, this variety is doing well on our site in Kilkenny and we are expecting nuts in the next year or so.
Once established, Franquette consistently yields a generous crop of medium to large-sized walnuts.
The nuts themselves boast have a rich flavor and a light-colored kernel, making them ideal for both culinary uses and fresh snacking. Their shells are relatively thin, allowing for easy cracking and extraction of the plump kernels.
One of 'Franquette's' most significant advantages for Ireland is its late bud break. This characteristic helps it avoid damage from late spring frosts, making it a dependable choice for regions prone to unpredictable spring weather.
