Shipova Pear
The Shipova pear is a unique hybrid fruit resulting from a cross between a European pear and a common whitebeam.
It produces small, round, yellowish-orange fruits, often with a red blush, that ripen on the tree.
The taste is described as sweet with tropical notes, sometimes reminiscent of mango, guava, or marzipan, and can also have a hint of spice. The flesh is typically crisp like an Asian pear, though some describe it as creamy and a bit gritty.
Shipova trees are generally small to medium-sized, hardy, and often disease-resistant, including scab resistance. They are a less common fruit but are valued for their distinctive flavor and ornamental qualities, with leaves that show characteristics of both parent species.
The fruit can keep for months in storage.
