Cornus Mas, Cornelian Cherry Bolestraszycki NEW
The 'Bolestraszycki' cornelian cherry is a Polish variety named after the town where it was grown – the Bolestraszyce Arboretum. The seedling originated in the 19th century from the Zamojski family estate in Florianka near Zwierzyniec, within the Roztocze National Park.
The fruit is pear-shaped and weighs approximately 4–7 g. The skin is dark red. The fruit is excellent for direct consumption, as well as for making liqueurs, preserves, jams, and compotes. The pit content is approximately 14%. This variety has an average ripening time, typically harvested in September. A significant advantage is its even ripening.
It grows to a height of approximately 3–5 m. It usually blooms in early March.
The Cornelian Cherry is a cross-pollinating species, so to obtain abundant fruiting it is recommended to plant another variety of Cornelian Cherry nearby
